Do you do this?
Someone asks “Can you do such and such?”
And you answer with a 700 word text reply about how you don’t think it’s a good idea, maybe next time or you give wayyyyy tooo mannny detttaillls about why you can’t.
It’s as if your guilt is writing an essay.
As i get older I’m learning to be more straightforward.
I learned that from my husband. His text messages are rarely over 3 words. Most of them are “okay.”
I’ve found most men are this way. Differently wired i guess. But i have found it helpful to add this to my own life…
Now when people ask me something i try to be 3 things
- Honest
- Straightforward
- Brief
Then they can move on with their lives too. Without me beating around the bush.
It’s ok that people don’t understand my choice or my answer. They don’t have to. And it’s not my job that they do understand. Lots of decisions are based on years of experiences and thoughts and that cannot be explained in a text or short conversation anyway.
Let your yes be yes and your no be no.
This Bible verse confirms this practice is good:
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Mathew 5:37

I’m still not there with making decisions lol
I like other people to decide for me but… once I’ve made a decision i try to just say it simply and not explain at all. And you are right it’s a lot less exhausting

This is so me. Always worried that I may hurt someone’s feelings and feeling the need to explain in a way that will make them not think less of me for saying no. It is definitely exhausting. Always worrying. Thanks for the bible verse. I think I may need to tattoo it down my arm!

You know how i kinda train myself… i will type the text i would normally send
Then i delete 80% and try to put my answer in one sentence.
Lol 😂
It really goes against my nature not to explain but i have never had anyone press for more info when i give a simple answer
